Wire Fraud Scammers Continue to Target Borrowers
Our Information Security Team at FIMC continues to see borrowers targeted by scammers impersonating employees within closing transactions via e-mail and text. Typically, the scammers attempt to trick people by sending wire transfer instructions that actually divert the funds into a scam account.
Your clients should be encouraged to call a trusted source and verbally verify the wire fund directions: bank name, account name, routing number and account number. In this way they can be sure the directions and account information they have been given are accurate. As you work with your clients, please explain this to them it to eliminate a potential disaster at closing.
