Last July, we were in Brockton, MA at the ribbon cutting for a Dream Court™ for the Brockton Boys & Girls Club. The MA branches of Fairway funded this new outdoor basketball court in partnership with Nancy Lieberman Charities.
Nancy has a fascinating history, and has inspired many at Fairway with her personal story beginning with her childhood in New York where she honed her basketball skills in pick-up games with boys, to her relationship with her idol and mentor, Muhammad Ali. A Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer who was only the second female assistant coach in NBA history, Nancy played and coached in the WNBA and was the youngest basketball player in Olympic history to win a medal as part of the 1976 USA Women’s team.
We are told the court gets lots of use and we wanted to check it out for ourselves, so one year later on July 31st, 2018 we returned to Brockton to celebrate the one year anniversary of the installation. Along with fifty children from the B & G Club, we enjoyed a fun afternoon of basketball games, shoot-outs and ice cream. You can watch video of the ribbon cutting on our Fairway New England Facebook page and look for photos from our one year anniversary event below, and on our Facebook and Twitter.
